Richard Butler collection.

This collection consists of the papers of William O. Butler. The collections includes various letters to William Butler, from 1882-1907, concerning land transactions, from persons interested in timber and mining in the Upper Peninsula. Also in the collection are various legal documents, from Dec. 30, 1878-1919. The remainder of the collections contains material on mining and land transactions in Michigan spanning the years 1856 through 1912, including maps of timber and mining properties in the Upper Peninsula.

Richard Butler was a Master of Arts candidate in the Department of English at the University of Victoria in the mid-1970s. When his Master's thesis proposal, a bibliography of works by Roderick Haig-Brown, was not accepted, Butler continued to pursue the publication of the bibliography outside of his M.A. program.
